Original hand-drawn sketch capturing the base of The Monument to the Great Fire of London, the iconic column designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke in the late 17th century. This intimate drawing focuses on the detailed architectural elements at the foot of the structure, where inscriptions and sculptural reliefs commemorate the fire of 1666 and the city’s remarkable recovery. The Monument, which rises 202 feet tall, was built to mark the exact distance from the fire’s origin on Pudding Lane and stands as a lasting symbol of London’s resilience.
This piece was created using pigment ink on beautifully textured 320gsm handmade paper, cut to a smaller, 20cm x 20cm format
