This map explores the area of Bankside on the southern shore of the River Thames. Today it is most known for the Tate Modern gallery, the Globe and riverside apartments that are worth millions.
Prior to London expanding westwards in the 1700's and long before the grassland of Soho was built over, Bankside was the place for London's entertainment. Theatres, Brothels and animal baiting pits dotted the shoreline.
