This map explores the most ancient part of London known today as Southwark. In order to build an image of Southwark throughout history, I had to research various maps of the area, from the medieval up until the present day. Like many of my maps, this one was heavily influenced by Jon Rocque’s - ‘Map of London’ (1746)

Whilst creating this map, I was able to plot-out lost Inns, Prisons, Churches and even Hospitals. I combined this research with information I found through other maps and various history books of London that I've discovered and purchased over the years (often from the Southbank Book Market).

Southwark (like many other locations in London) has a very special place in my heart, as I used to spend a lot of time there during my Uni days. I couldn't even count the amount of times I've walked through Borough Market or taken a train from London Bridge Station.

With that said, the creation of this map was a true labour of love.
