Pen drawing using black pigment ink onto handmade 320gsm paper.
This drawing depicts the crowded and dense narrow streets of a long-lost and forgotten Westminster long before the area was demolished to make way for the large and grand government buildings of the present day.
In this scene, I show a fictional alley winding its way through a slum of dilapidated ancient houses leaning into one another into the darkness. Standing dominant in the background is Westminster Abbey.
I wanted to show the scale and importance of the Abbey, a building which today is shadowed by the nearby Palace of Westminster.
This drawing forms part of the development of my current project ‘Palace of Westminster’, which explores the history of the old medieval and the present-day palace.
